Is dyno the only way????

I have sent my pcm to get mail order tuned twice now and my car is still not running right. I replaced the plugs and wires, seems to hesitate in 1st gear acceleration. I checked the plugs and they are pretty black, need to run the car 3-4 grand no to fowl the plugs.....any way I can adjust how much injectors are dumping or should I just put in my 24lbers back and see what happens....any suggestions>?

If you had one of the reputable guys do your mail order tune, I'd venture to say there is something else wrong with the car

The guys that do this and are talked about on this board have mail order tuning pretty much down. Sure, you'll most likely be able to squeek out a few more hp with an actual dyno tune but your car should at least run pretty damn good with a mail order tune from one of the guys often talked about on here.

FWIW, I have a custom tune in my 450 hp n/a 96SS. However, I ran it with the stock OBDII PCM for a couple months and it ran surprisingly well.

Do you have anyway to scan the car while it's running? Datamaster or anything similar is a very handy tool. That's the best way to get mail order tuning to be spot on. They do a tune, you take readings and they fine tune it based on those readings till it's all good. One other thing, do you run an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? I know those have caused me problems in the past.

Ion tuned the pcm...twice....this is makig me wonder if the egr is sticking or some sensor is screwed...shes fine when cold, cuts out a bit when warmed up and blows black smoke upon heavier acceleration.

Any chance you forgot to tell him about a particular mod, or could it be something simple like the vacuum line fell off the FP regulator?

The best thing would be to get a datalogger so you can read all the sensors and what they are doing. Some injectors may be bad, Or a sensor, Or a miss. It could be a lot of things but to hook it up and look at the sensors live could help you out alot and tell you what direction to take.
