Dyno Day!!!!

Dynoed the car the other day:
287HP at around 5100rpm and steady till about 5700rpm
322Torque peak at around 4100rpm
The torque was at 300 from 2500rpm all the way till 5000prm

Both curves are nice and smooth throughout the power band, which I was very pleased with. I was hoping for at least 300HP, maybe I will free up that extra 13HP with a new clutch. AFR around 13:1 at 2500rpm to about 12.5:1 at 5100rpm.

Cam is 218/218@.050 116lsa w/ 1.6 rockers which bring valve lift to .531, shorty headers, no cat w/borla exhaust and stock everything else. Any suggestions on how to hit 300HP........like a new tune or something like that.

A new cam. For one that cam is tiny but even the size isnt the main issue. Its a single pattern cam which for LT1s isnt the best choice since LT1 heads dont flow well on the exhaust. Next is the lobe seperation of that cam... its far from ideal if you wanna make good power.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

I know that a cam swap would get me over 300, I was talking about mods that don't require me to go into the motor.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

Lingenfelter CAI or other good brand name
CSI or Mezeire Electric Waterpump
ASP Crank Replacement Pulley
TB Bypass
Longtube headers
Madwolf Tune or Dyno Tune
Better Flowing heads
Bigger Cam
Aluminum Driveshaft

All of these are great mods for HP. Most bolt on M6's are putting down at least 300rwhp.

Also how come your LSA is at 116? I think most after market cams are in the 110-114 range.

Make a sig with your car mods, so we can help a bit easier please.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

you ought to be able to squeeze anthor 10 hp int hat car with tuning pretty easy.

After that, you can always put say 5 more PSI in the back tires.. that helps them sometime We did that with a guy here local who was just dead set on breaking 300rwhp with his stock bottom end blown 5.0. (300 is a good number for them) Went from say 297 to 304 with air in the tires and a damp rag on the intake.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

Like Rooster said, if you don't have a tune, you need one bad. I was at 285 rwhp/ 318 rwtq with just CAI, Headers and catback. I now have 1.6 RR's and am around 300 rwhp.

You should be over 300 rwhp right now.

I just saw that you don't mention a CAI. If you don't have one, you are REALLY choking off your air flow.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

I would be pissed if those were my numbers. Not trying to sound harsh but whoever picked out that cam should be slapped.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

Forgot to mention about the ram air setup like there earlier LT1 Trans Ams including the hood. The cam has an intake centerline of 111 so it comes out to 116 lsa.

I take offense to that comment. I picked that cam out about 4 years ago because looking for around 300HP to the wheels and wanted drivability. At the time I was 19 years old, so no I didn't have all the knowledge in the world to pick out a better cam. Right now I'm just trying to free up or maximize all the HP this motor has in her.

Yet I remember a different thread where a respected member said that 220 is where they feel the limit of duration is for a stock head lt1. I guess sub 300 RWHP is the lmit then too. If I remember correctly, he even said that 220 was the high side for a stroker and lower 210s for a 350. Then you have to add the people that say that shorty headers are better than LTs. SO, there is some conflicting information somewhere. Technically, you could swap the cam to something larger and make nearly 360 rwhp, or keep the cam and go LTs and make 360 rwhp. For some reason, I don't see either scenario being very likely. Maybe LTs and a big cam ARE the way to go.

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

287hp is horrible for those mods. You could have done 1.6 rockers and a cutout and made that kind of power. I made 314rwhp and I don't even have a cam!

Re: Dyno Day!!!!

You should be able to hit 300 by making sure everything is dialed in with
what you have. If I can hit 300 without headers and a baby cam, your
setup should get there. Just go over all the basic stuff. If everything is
OK, then get a tune.
