Dumb question but have to ask...

What is the rear axle in an LT1? Is it the same as the 3rd generation Camaros? Will a 3rd gen ring and pinion work in a 4th housing? Probably a dumb question but I'm a Jeep guy, still learning.

GM 10 bolt 3:42 gears more than likely. If I'm incorrect someone chime in. Former Jeep guy here too. Not sure about the 3rd gens.

Cool, my guess was 10 bolt. Yes I have 3.42's but I found a set of 3.42 from a 3rd Gen. for $20. Was thinking about buying them for either a spare or giving them to my buddy who has something like 2.93 (2 something i forget) in his but both are 4th gens.

the gears would be interchangable from the 3rd gen to 4th gen and viseversa

HOWEVER

3.42 gears are 3 series carrier(come in the 6spd), and 2.73 or 3.23 (came in the autos) are a 2 series carrier. these are not directly interchangable. but i do beleive there is a spacer of some kind to match them up.

so you could take 3.23's and swap them out with 2.73, but you'd run into problems changeing 2.73's to 3.42's

How about the "guts" of the carrier? The carrier would come with it but the spiders were robbed.
