Dumb question

i have just joined the board and am looking to get some headers in about 2 weeks (income tax refund, YES). I am readfing up and trying to find the best bang for the buck. Alot of people are running y-pipes. why? i have stock mani's on right now and 2.5 test pipe on an 82 camaro exhaust which is 2.5 all the way. Why put a y-pipe in insted of going with 2 pipes all the way back? Or is there something about this setup i am REALLY missing? Thanks,Stroke

This should probably be in 3rd Gen Tech.

True duals is definately the way to go if you want the best flow, but people use y-pipes so that they can run regular cat-back exhaust sytems with it. Saves a little time in fabrication.

I believe you lose some ground clearance with true duals. Also if you get headders, you are probably going to have a 3" collector. At least my LT's do.

i ran into that tonight actually, the headers i am ordering have 3" collectors and i figure WTF why not just go 3" all the way back, so i am going to a local shop and going to have them do it. Problem is, what kinda mufflers do i want? and where can i get them for a bargain? Or should i just use the ones i have on now?

in most of the true duel set ups i see most people run are with resignators at some point or with bullet mufflers or both.

only down side is the price is usely around 1,000 for it

Right, I went out and checked my Ro a couple minutes ago and i actually have a Y-pipe. I would prefer to run a true duel setup, but i will have to see where that fits into my budget, and i might have to wait on it for a little while. Stroke
