(DTC) p0430

On my 1997 Camaro Z28.
I looked up the code and it comes up as Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
I know my cat on the pasanger side is bad sounds like popcorn poping.
Now the noise went away and it through DTC P0430.
So is it the O2 sensor or the cat?
And if it's the O2 can I use one of the up stream ones and change the connector on it?

Thanks,

Chris.

Then what would you put in place of the pre-cat sensor?

First, figure out if its the cat or the sensor. Switch the left and right after-cat sensors side to side. If the problem stays where it was (Bank 2) its the cat. IF the problem follows the sensor..... wellllll you can figure it out from there.

My bad.
I have my old LT1 that has O2's in it.
But switching them around sounds better.
That way if it's the cat I still have a good back up.
To get me by.
Thanks for the help.

Chris.

Well I changed the o2's around and cleard the code.
I ran the car today and it came up with the same code.
So it's that dam $500.00 cat.
So is this going to make my gas mileage worse?
I can't replace it for a while.

Thanks,

Chris.

Where did you get a quote for $500 for a catalytic convertor? They are available for a fraction of that.

If you just leave things the way they are, and the only problem with the cat is reduced activity, it will not affect your fuel mileage at all, nor will it affect the way the car runs.

Well it was about that at the dealer.
Well My cost was about 480.
I figured I would go with the gm peice because it's a "Hi-Flow"
I just want to make sure I put a cat that flows the same on.
Or do you think this aftermarket one would be the same?
