DTC 43 = Runs like crap, HELP!

Ok I sesarched and well, I wouldnt be surprised if Injuneer pops in here and says " Its the Knock sensor circuit" . I was amazed at the amount of threads Injuneer popped into and said that...LOL!!!

Really though, Im having some problems as of late with the code. I read through a few threads and concluded that there might be a problem with the car pulling timing and causing the car to run like ****. Hard starts, horrible part-throttle, bad idle, and running a little rich too.

1. I already checked the wiring and its fine.
2. Swapped it out for a new one I had laying around.
3. Noticed my plug wires were butted up against it.

Im not sure, but I remember reading through a thread some time ago that the plug wires might interfere with the knock sensor and throw the code. Any truth to this? Is there anything else I should look out for since Im under the car? Thanks for any help guys!

If you found my posts, you should have found the method for testing the wires and the knock sensor, including the ground to the engine block. I suspect I have mentioned the possible issue of nearby high voltage wires causing problems with the knock sensor circuit. Usually its just a matter of causing signals that get interpreted as knock. But its conceivable that the high voltage firing through the plug wires is causing a voltage in the KS wire that causes the code to set.

Are you sure you have the correct 93-95 knock sensor, and not the incorrect 96/97 sensor?

Yes, I saw you mentioned testing the voltage to the wire but I dont have access to an ohm meter. It was working fine for about a week then after I tidied up the wires I had problems, which is why I suspect the plug wires causing interference with the knock sensor. How can I verify I have the correct knock sensor? Thanks for chiming in Injuneer!

You need an ohm meter. The 93-95 sensor has a resistance of about 4,500 ohms. The 96-97 sensor has a resistance of about 100,000 ohms. Shoebox may have the part #'s on his website.

I'll grab an ohm meter this weekend and double check, thanks for the info Injuneer! I'll try rerouting those plug wires and see if it fixes the problem then post my findings.

Interference from the plug wires will definitely do it. You say you "tidied" up the wires. If you bundled the KS wire with the plug wires, it seems to follow that is where you need to look.

I might have tied everything up together since I was in a hurry that day. I'll take my time when I get back under the car this weekend. Thanks shoebox!
