Dropping the motor without a lift...

I was wondering if anyone has done this? If so, any tips or methods you used to get the motor out without a lift would be appreciated...

I used an engine hoist to lift the body up and had the k-member on rollers. A buddy made a slick roll around out of roll cage tubing that would hold both the k-member and tranny together. Otherwise you can just use furniture rollers.

Make sure you block the rear tires and use good quality jack stands, not concrete blocks.

This topic has been discussed frequently on LT1 Based Engine Tech. There are posts with links to "how to" sites. Definitely not an "Advanced Tech" topic. Here's a link I've saved in the past.

Dont see how it can be done WITHOUT a cherrypicker or hoist to lift the front of the car up high enough to pull everything out from underneath.

i used a coffin hoist attached to a rafter in my shop to lft it up enough to get everything out. make sure you raise the rearend up enough so you dont smash your tailpipes.

An industrial transmission jack works well also.

i used a basic floor with a 6x6 block on top of it, a couple tall truck jackstands, and left the front wheels on and rolled the whole thing out from under the car
