Dropped valve seat
Dropped valve seat
OK folks, this is a little strange, so here we go.
Drove the LT1 RX7 about 300 miles to Gainesville Saturday. Played a little, but mostly in higher gears, not revving it hard.
Everything was fine, car ran like a champ as always.
Got it to my buddys house in Gainesville, parked it.
Came back out two hours later to go somewhere and realized the parking lights had been on--battery was down a little. So we push started it.
As SOON as it started a LOUD clattering was obvious...
Shut the motor off, pulled the valve cover, discovered one BADLY bent pushrod on cylinder 6 (45 degree angle, almost).
Ordered a whole set, figured I'd replace them all. Got to that cylinder, was setting the lash as I went, and couldnt get the intake valve to come up all the way without the rocker on.The spring stays maybe a third of the way down.
Removed the head--problem is a dropped valveseat. Only thing I can think of is the engine was pretty warm when I shut it off, and it heatsoaked to the point where the seat dropped. Piston is nicked, not that big of a deal, I'll just have to clean it up.
Heres damage pics. They suck, ****ty webcam...but..
You can clearly see the seat keeping the valve from closing.

Here is the rocker tip. Chewed up badly and will not roll.
