Does a 12 bolt rear (see Moser) use a different length driveshaft than our stock 10 bolt? Or could I simply swap the driveshaft over with no problems?

 

Im pretty sure you will need a slightly shorter driveshaft. You might need a conversoin kit, I dont think the 12 bolts use a 1310 series yolk.

 

Many people with the Moser 12-bolt have found the stock DS is too long. Not everyone, but some.... might depend on the pinion yoke they use on a particular assembly.

Nice thing about the Strange... works fine with the stock DS length, and includes a "cross-over" u-joint to connect the 1310 DS to the 1350 pinion yoke.

 

Well, I was considering purchasing the ACPT Carbon Fiber ds in the for sale section for $500 until I got that answer. There's no way to make that work?

 

You might want to check with Fred (Injuneer) and ask about his experience with ACPT before you drop that much $$ on a DS.

My suggestion would be to get a custom one from Denny's. Much cheaper and definitely tough as nails.

I PM'd you with info about my "broken" ACPT HD (3.79") CF DS..... as in "broke" under virtually zero load when the car was being driven from the engine shop to the body shop with a "limp home" tune in the computer.

 

I had to have my driveshaft shortened approximately 2" when the Moser was installed. I just shattered my aluminum driveshaft into 4 pieces and will be placing an order to Denny's driveshafts for a Nitrous Ready one tomorrow.

 

So I found out the used ACPT unit I'm looking at is for a Moser 12 bolt with the 1350 yoke. I think I may take a chance on this one.

 

When you get it, check the length. Install it leaving the u-bolts for the rear joint loose, raise the back wheels to normal ride height, and take the u-bolts off. Make sure the u-joint caps are fully in the pinion yoke. Then slide the DS forward until it bottoms out on the end of the tranny or the seal. That should be in the range of 0.75-1.00". The more HP you are putting down, the more you need to be on the high side of that number.

I think my ACPT failure was a "fluke".... I believe it was defective when they shipped it. If yours has been used, and tested under reasonably heavy loads, it is probaly OK. ACPT claimed mine was the only one that they ever had fail. What really p!ssed me off was the fact they refused to admit it was defective, and tried to put all the blame on me. Thankfully, with the assistance of Tom Byrne, I was able to prove the DS was in fact the correct length, and I had done nothing with it that could have damaged it.
