Tool to measure? A set of digital calipers will get ya an exact #.

Should probably take it to a machine shop to replace the dowel.

Sometimes you can pull it out with visegrips. When I upgraded my opti to the vented style I could not get the dowel to move. I bought a new dowel at the dealer and had a machinist swap them. He said he had to use a dental drill to get it out.

If the bore for the dowel pin goes through to the back side of the cam journal you can usually drive them out with a small punch. I bend the end of a 1/8" punch so it will clear the cam lobe then turn the cam up on end, insert the tool into the hole from the back side and drive the pin out with a hammer. Good idea to wrap the lobe up in several turns of tape to protect it. Punches are often brittle so a litte heat may be required to bend them.

There is a tool that is used for removing dowels. Any machine shop that can turn a flywheel will have one...Dang I wish I had asked you what year your car was, I know someone who has this tool that I speak of. I could have removed it before I shipped the cam to you

btw...does anyone know exactly what length the dowel is suppose to be for a 95+? All this dowel pin talk makes me wanna go double check the one on my LE3 cam...

The dowel pin for vented opti motors is 0.610 - 0.620, not sure about the non vented but it should be a great dela shorter maybe 0.340".
For the original poster: the dowel on a 94 should not stick out from the cam sprocket it's just used to index the cam, the 3 5/16" bolts will retain the cam to the sprocket.

.840" on a vented opti (95+) will destroy it in a short time. .650" is more like it.

I think you may have misinterpreted the information on my website.
