Are long tubes worth the trouble over mids ,is there that much of a horsepower difference especially if the car is going to stay basically stock except maybe a cam (gm 846)

No, there won't be a very big difference. If you have mids on there now, I would leave them. Its just not worth the cost and additional labor in swapping headers.

If its a street car and a DD mids are a better option. You can stay emission legal and keep the ground clearance.

There is no emissions in SC.

If you're desperate for power after heads/cam, get the long tubes. If you're just a bolt-on car, I wouldn't bother.

I personally have experience with mid tubes and longtubes on the same motor in the same car. Keep in mind I do have heads, cam, and 11.6 to 1 compression, but I finally decided to switch from my JBA's to Pacesetter longtubes because it seemed I was down on power, and what a night and day difference in my application. It was like I had manifolds on it before kind of difference. We also just but Hooker longtubes on my buddies car which is all stock motor and it seems to pull harder than my brothers with bolt ons and Mac midtubes.
