Re: double roller timing chain

This would getter better results in the "LT1 Based Engine Tech" forum, than in "Drivetrain". I'll move it there for you.

Re: double roller timing chain

You need an electric water pump, delete the CKP, install an earlier OBDI-type crank hub (or shim the OBDII hub), and trim the rear of the timing cover. Ideally you'd want a 95 timing cover too...it has a vented opti but no provision for the CKP, but you can make the 96+ work.

So removing the ckp is not going to mess up the performance part of the car?? From my research the 96 with OBD 2 that is the only difference is that sensor.. switch to OBD 1 anyhow they can do the bypass that code correct??

The CKP sensor was added in OBD-II to detect misfires. It serves no other purpose, and can be deleted without any affect on the way the engine runs. You will have to have the code for the CKP sensor programmed out to avoid staring at an SES light all the time.

There are numerous other differences in OBD-II, including a mulitude of diagnostics, the EVAP vacuum detector and after-cat O2 sensors.

All timing is adjusted via the PCM. Just install the chain dot to dot and you're good to go!
