Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

ok guys so i just picked this car up not to long ago. The guy i got it from really couldn't tell me much about it other than the receipts for the car. 355 bored, has 9k on her right now, fresh clean clean, valve job, ported heads, ported throttle body, ported intake, lt4 hotcam package. 1.6 rr's, 411 gear, pacesetter longtube headers, now the exhaust is what i think is clogging her up, has a off road y pipe into a cat then straight to muffler to single dump, also has the t56 6 spd, has msd optispark all msd wires, she runs pretty good for the most part, on the dyno at wot at 5500 rpm air fuel hit 11.8 to 12.0. Graph looks pretty solid but still with the mods you would think way better numers. With the car being a 93 i think it needs a better chip burned but have no clue where to go.

car made 265 rwhp and 318 rwtq. numbers are low correct and this was on a dynojet.

Yea they say its a bit rich. What should it be leaned out too? What's the correct ait fuel for this car at wot? And who can tune these cars around charlotte nc with it being a map car?

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

Also guys with it being tuned what kind of numbers can be expected? I'm not sure about the timing either.

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

That's what dyno-tuning is for, but I have another theory. It sounds like it's never been tuned. Is there a chance the original owner did those mods and just left the stock tune/chip in?

Typical mildly-ported heads and LT4 hotcam-cars put down anywhere from 330whp to 350whp through a 6-speed, marginally less for an automatic.

Timing is entirely controlled by the PCM. IMO your next course of action should at LEAST be a mail-order tune. Try www.pcmforless.com or www.madz28.com

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

Honestly its a bit possible there may be no chip. I have noticed a cleat computer box wired in undr the driver side dash. Where. Would this chip be located? I'm assuming around the pcm coorect behind the glovebox? What do I look for. The dyno guy said my curve looks ok but he said the numbers are low. Who can dyno this car and burn a chip on the spotm I hate can tunes. What should. My air fuel be at?

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

There is no magic A/F ratio, hence what I said in my first post.

What is a "can tune?" Mail-order tunes are INCREDIBLY accurate. I put down 440whp on a mail-order tune and only got an additional 15HP by having it dyno-tuned. If you want a dyno-tune it's going to cost you at least TWICE what a mail-order would cost. You also ask who/where you can have it done but you don't list where you're from, nor do you have a signature with basic info about your car, like current mods, year, transmission, etc.

The EPROM is located inside the PCM in the engine bay behind the passenger side shock tower.

You are lucky, contact Alvin at pcmforless.com. He is in Mooresville right up the road and has been tuning chip cars for a very along time. You should be able to schedule a dyno tune and have any problems corrected. Keep us informed.

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

black 95ta if u read my original post I posted everything about my car including where I'm from.........and what do u mean there's no magical airfuel ratio? I'm asking what is the relative. Safe airfuel at wot? 11.9 is a tad on the rich side so obviosly it can be leaned out. Also I have already been to tick performance in mooresville they don't like lt1 cars to much I have an appointment with the fbody guys over at zeus performance tomorrow. And a can tune is the same thing as mail order tune sorry for the confusion.

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

Typically, you will find more HP/torque with the A/F ratio in the range of 12.8 - 13.2:1. The point that has been well made is this is not a one-size-fits-all answer.

Typically, people have used "canned" program to mean something like a one-size-fits-all program from a Hypertech programmer, so that might explain why some felt that reference to be confusing.

You do need to add a "Location" to your setup info. Note the "Location" field under the screen name and avatar. You are the only one in the thread that didn't include that info. People are trying to help you.

Re: Dissapointing Dyno numbers!

There we go all updated! Ok so I just took the pcm out and popped open the bottom piece and inside I could see the chip and it reads www.moates.net. I'm pretty sure they tune these cars. I assumed it was tuned as it runs just fine. Also the fans kick on around 180 so I knew it was programmed. Question is now what. Thanks a lot for the help guys.
