DOT approved aftermarket driving/fog lights?

I tried to do a search and I found TONS of threads that use aftermarket lights and blah blah blah. But I didn't find any that are DOT approved? Are all aftermarket lights non-DOT approved? The reason I'm asking is because living in VA they are strict on everything and if I do a nice headlight upgrade that says DOT I might be able to pass my inspection. Just curious, are PIAA DOT approved? I get a nice discount PIAA lights so I "hope" they are. Anyway thanks for your help in advance. I hope some of the board members like Brent, Pure, and some others help me on this...thanks guys.

Just remember that just because they are DOT approved doesn't mean you can just slap them on there and it's legal.

Very few modifications are technically "legal" anymore.

If a cop REALLY wanted to, he could find a law that says that any aftermarket cold air intake is illegal. This is especially true in cali, and other emissions strict states.

So if all you are worried about is the "DOT" sticker, I would honestly just buy the sticker itself, and slap the stickers on the housings, because that is all they are gonna be good for.

The Hella 90mm look pretty sweet though

I get a nice deal with PIAA is the only reason I was wondering. I might have to buy into a place that sells Hella then lol

Hmmm, oh well guess I'll have a sticker made that says DOT approved

hellas are dot approved, as long as they are symetrical and at a minimum height that your state requires, and assuming that you dont replace the bulbs. also, walmart sells dot approved lights. but you still have to follow the state laws about AUX lighting. even if you replace the headlights with aftermarket, they are still considered to be auxillary(sp?) lights.

as for the laws, most are: lights must be symmetrical to vehicle and each other, must be at least 18" off the ground, and must be 2.5-6 degrees negative at a distance of 20 yards

Don't forget the requirement that the low beams have to be on the outside. Although when you look at a lot of aftermarket kits, you'll notice that the low beam is on the inside, which "technically" is illegal.

that is type of information I like hearing. Does anyone know a few places that carry hella? I'll see if I can't get a dealer discount and pay less for them, hopefully!
