Doing some work on the Formula tommorow

I had the car over a week and drove it once.

I'm going to Pep Boys to get a Plethora of supplies, what should I address tommorow?

The car has 116,000 and I don't know what upkeep the last owner did.

The car runs mint.

Thanks,

Dan

I think I take a trip under my hood at least once a week. Isn't it great when your in the Formy and people think you're packing a V6? I'm getting off topic.

Plugs/Wires/Fluids/Filters. Brake pads.

I haven't driven the car much yet. Mine has a rumble that any knowing car buff would know is a V8.

I hope some people think it's a V6 so I could smoke them though

Has the K&N filter been cleaned recently? May want to pick up a K&N recharge kit as well.

You might want to wait a bit and find out EXACTLY what you need.... plugs, wires, etc. "Pep Boys" isn't necessarily going to know what you need, or have the really good stuff in stock. Go to the top of any page on this site, and click on the "Supporting Vendor Index". Then pick a few of the dealers with a wide range of F-Body specific parts, like Thunder Racing and T. Byrne Motorsports, or one of the other Supporting Vendors. These are people who drive these cars, build these cars and tune these cars, and know what works and what doesn't.

Spend some time reading through the forums.... do a "search" on topics like plugs and wires to see what most people use/recommend. Look at Shoebox's website for more info about what's under the hood, where its located, what it looks like, and how to perform basic mods and repairs.

Oh.... and drive it more.... once a week is not enough.

A week or so after I got my formula (after I took off all the formula badges) a guy in a mustang wanted to race me for 250 bucks saying he would blow my doors off. Well lets just say he hung with me through 1st and that was about it. He failed to realize the dual exhaust the formula had and the rumble when I started it.

Needless to say, that 250 bucks helped paid for my exhaust.

Re: Doing some work on the Formula tommorow

When i got my car a few weeks ago, the following was done.

rear end fluid
trans/filter
engine/filter
air filter
pcv valve
fuel filter
flushed coolant

I think thats about it.

I did not choose to run synthetics in the engine. Just personal preference.

The plugs and wires, will wait for a few months to go be changed with headers. Also, ran a good bottle of fuel injector, who knows if it helps or not.
Probably going to seafoam it here in a few days as well.

How much rear end fluid should I buy?

I am going to get the GM additive and redline 75w90 fluid.

How many quarts do I need?

Re: Doing some work on the Formula tommorow

All of the info regarding fluid specifications and quantities is in your Owner's Manual. If you don't have the Owner's Manual for your car, go to Shoebox's website.... he has links to the online Owner's Manuals for all years:
