Question Does wheel hop cause damage?

I live in Michigan, where the roads are far from serene. If I give it a bit too much gas and hit a big pothole (kinda normal, those potholes...), I'll get quite a bit of wheelhop afterwards. The hopping itself isn't too bothersome to me, but it's the thought that it could be doing some harm. Can any problems arise due to some wheelhop? Or is the only real negative side just losing power? Thanks guys.

Each time your tires go from being off the ground (spinning), then hit the pavement you get massive torque spikes to just about everything driveline and suspension related. It's not a good thing... The cheapest broken part I've seen from this is a busted tranny mount.

How can wheel hop not bother you?! *shudders* It has to be the next worst thing to an actual accident. It cant possibly be easy on anything

It wasn't on an F body, but I snapped an axle once due to wheel hop.

Accelerating over potholes, railroad tracks, or anything bumpy is bad. I have a friend that used to have a mustang cobra and we went out one nite to the casino and it was the first time I had ridden in his car, so he is showing me what the cobra can do cause he knows I am a camaro fan and he is powershifting over rough pavement and potholes and such and by the end of the evening his tranny is making funny noises and hard to shift.
Ended up he toasted the tranny doing this stupid stuff and had to put a new one in.
Try to avoid it at as much as possible.

One of the big problems with the mustangs, wheel hop breaking all sorts of things. Its definatly not a good thing for F-bodies either. Maybe its subframe connector time.

Well it certainly doesn't happen all the time... but if it happens time to time is it really an issue? Or is this just a normal thing that happens with these vehicles? Thanks!

when the back end of the car is bouncing around, especially on really bumpy roads and/or wheel hop, GET YOUR FOOT OFF THE FRICKEN ACCELERATOR

thats TERRIBLE for your drivetrain...

each time the tires re-grab the pavement... it puts a peak of super high pressure on the drivetrain.... only press the gas when the rear and both tires are nice and planted to the pavement...

I know that . Sometimes, however, it is just inevitable... part of Michigan I suppose. I guess I'll just have to adjust my driving habits!
