Does a burned plug wire also kill an Opti?

I have a burned plug wire. I can hear it arching out onto the header plain as day. Yes that is causing a miss. My question is that I heard that if you burn a plug wire that it also causes a burned hole or a burned spot in the opti. Should I go ahead and replace the opti while I do new plugs and wires?

It's a 97 Z-28.

My car has burned a wire or two and never caused a problem with the opti. Just replace the wire.

This has probably been asked to death, but what are the best plugs and wires to use? Should I use the 100,000 mile GM ones? Or should I use Bosch platinum plugs with the 4 electrode things?

Which wires are best? I saw a set on the MSD website that were 8.5mm and they were red, but they were all 12" long. Isn't that a little short for the back cylinders? It's what they reccomend for a 97 Z28. And is $100 a little steep for just wires?

NGK or autolite for plugs. I have msd wires but many companies will work fine. I would never put anything but an ngk or autolite plug in a LT1 engine.

But thats just me. Others may tell you differnet.
