Do you have over 150k on your original engine?
By the way...
I have always believed in sticking to a 3000 mile change in all my cars Although with the Amsoil it's now filter changes every 3000 miles and oil once a year.), but my best friend didn't.
He's spent the last decade working in a fabrication shop, where one of the things they do on a daily basis is repair broken equipment of one kind or another.
He said that over time he began to notice that equipment that had a rigid maintenence shcedule lasted MUCH longer and was in clearly better shape even when it did let go.
The stuff that was NOT maintained was obvious. he doesn't even have to ask.
I personally use synthetic oil because it's better, but even dino oil will protect an engine far better than most people are even aware. and of course, other lubes protect their parts as well.
My car was maintained by the Municipal garage, in a very wealthy town with a generous budget.
As I said, it was most likely maintained on dino oil, but the oil was changed on time, every time, and as I also mentioned, it seals well enough at 135,000 miles to make 320lb/ft of torque.
And not to put too fine a point on it, Smokey said that changing your oil is the most important thing you can do to make your car last.

Have 140,XXX miles only have run 5W-30 fully synthetic valvaline and AC filters. She's good for at least 200,000 or more.
o yea and every 3,000 miles i change it...who doesn't?? LOL
I personally Don't believe you should run amsoil or that synthetic any longer than you can regular stuff..........the oil might not break down---but the crap in the oil is what does the damage.
You change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles and she will last

Not true. Oil analyis proves that there isn't much "crap" in the oil (as you put it) at only 3000 miles, and a good synthetic can go way beyond that point. Read this link if you need more proof:

I know lots of people who use synthetics and go much longer than 3000 miles between changes and have long lasting engines.
It's simply a waste of good oil to dump synthetic after only 3000 miles.
165 000 miles on my '97 Trans Am.
Mobile1 10W30 every 3000 to 6000 miles most of the time, tried Red Line once but only since it was on a great sale.... wouldn't pay full price for the stuff though.
The car gets 400 miles/week on the highway (35 mile trip to work), and has seen about 40 to 60 passes down the strip.
Original Optispark, never cracked open the valve covers, and have only done replaced plugs/wires/O2's/etc... Swapped in some new LS1 injectors last summer and noticed a small improvement, so I guess I should have cleaned or replaced the stock ones sooner.
