Exclamation Decision Time

I'm not made of money here and i don't have many more options than to swap engines or sell it......first of all the engine still runs BUT no oil pressure...this is all after an install that went bad and engine components ended up shooting around in the motor.......How much would you ask for a car with all the bolt on's you would start with and complete exhaust system and that has a practically flawless body.....BUT any one in their right mind would see the oil pressure is down..HOW MUCH WOULD YOU SELL IT FOR..........the cost of engine swap with upgrade and trans swap doesn't seem cost effective for me right now......so i'm checking to see if people would buy my car like it is..........any info would be helpful....PLEASE

Sig....FLP LT's are on the car now.....plus 1.6" and upgrade value springs

It may seem like a PITA to fix your motor now, but in retrospect you will regret. With the $$$ you lose on the car in selling it, you could be halfway to a stroker. Just think about. You have a "Flawless" car already, what is few thousand to make it more flawless.

How many miles on car? I would give you 1800, if i was in the market for one. A car is nothing without a functioning motor.

Even if you bought an LS1, the you would only have 1800 to contribute to it. You would need atleast 7100 more dollars for a decent 98 Z28.

Take a small loan out? I dunno... kinda screwed both ways here if your limited on cash. sorry man

I had exactly the same problem with my camaro. I did engine swap (new engine), and then sell it. I was in much better situation because my father and I are mechanics so I didn’t pay for any labor costs. But anyway, I would repair the engine, and if you don’t have money sell those bolt ons (you wont get more for them anyway). DONT SELL THE CAR WITH BAD ENGINE!!!! Because you will get almost nothing for it!!!
Sebastian
ps. You can buy a used engine from junk yard for like $500, pay another $500 for the swap and you are ready to sell. After you will get money, you can rebuild your old motor (that is in the car right now), and sell it!!!

The money you will save on this idea, please paypal to me

What about repair

Since i seem to only oil pressure issues...i was thinking maybe its not as severe as i think it is. What type of repairs could be made in order to rule out any problems with just the oil components....

What install went wrong? Maybe it can be fixed. If you have parts inside the engine maybe they are clogging the oil pickup and all you have to do is drop the pan. Never know

i would start by dropping the oil pan and checking the oil pump and all the bearings. was the engine knocking? i might just replace the oil pump and bearings just to be safe.

Fist of all had the same problem,, no oil pressure (I am assuming that there is no nock or anything). On the beginning when the oil was cold, the pressure was 20 psi, but after 10 minutes of driving it dropped to 0psi. When my machine shop guys take the engine apart, bearings were shoot (rod bearings). Of course other reason can me bad oil pump, clogged pick up, or maybe pick up just fell off. First check those things. Also you can put some thick oil, 20w-50 and check it the oil pressure will be okay. First thing that I would do it go to any mechanic shop, and let them use mechanic oil pressure gauge to check if your oil pressure is really that bad (maybe your oil pressure sensor, just went bad, this is very common on our engines).
To replace bearings you will have to take the motor out. It is possible to replace bearings while motor is in the car but this is huge PITA to do, and you need special tool...The best thing will be to take the engine, and replace all bearings. But you can check them using plascicguage (AutoZone), for clearances while the engine is in the car. Then is clearances aren’t okay, give crank to any machine shop and they will polish/cut the crank and match bearings to it. Put the engine in, and sell the car ...
But lie I said before, you can buy used engine; it will be cheaper tan rebuild. For good rebuild you will need to clean the whole motor, hone the cylinders, replace cam bearings ect. To do that you have to take out heads, and all other stuff, so after that you will need replace all gaskets in the motor (over $100). If you are selling the car for sure, droop used motor in (you can get real nice engine for $500, $600). After all you can rebuild the motor when you will get the money from the car, and then sell it...

DECIDED TO KEEP IT

After all the input....i think i'll keep the car....try all the obvious repairs with the oil system and then if no success.....i'll take the motor out myself and have it done.......I didn't want to have to selll it.......I WANT TO RACE THE CAR.... fixing your broken car is all apart of the game i guess........I'll be back on here a lot again when i get into the repairs......
