Do NOT use a Purolator Oil Filter for an LT1!!!
Re: Do NOT use a Purolator Oil Filter for an LT1!!!
Actually I think your title is a little harsh, you get the one bad oil filter that comes out after 10,000 roll off the line and you are trying to banish this product forever.

Flip- I stopped using the PureOne filter a while ago. Not because it's a bad filter, and yes, it does have a high efficiency rating but that comes at a significant resistance to flow. I wanted a filter that hit a happy medium between good filtering and good flow, like everything it's a trade off. There used to be a write-up online where a guy set up a test where he could measure pressure drop across an oil filter, and the results were really interesting.

Anyone know these numbers. I think pure ones multipass efficiency is 98% per SAE standard.
I love K&N's idea, but at $12.98 a filter versus $5.88 for a PureOne? No thanks. I got one of those cap oil wrenches for $6 for each car 3 years ago. Changing the oil on both every 4k, I think I've saved a lotta $$$ to sacrifice a little 1" end

When I was a parts counter guy, we had filter school from a purolator rep. He bought one of every brand off our shelf, then cut em open in front of us, no tampering. I remember Fram and motorcraft were loaded with metal filings. AC Delcos were clean, but had a weak looking element. I've used purolator ever since.
Re: Do NOT use a Purolator Oil Filter for an LT1!!!
One day when I was doing an oil change on my fiance's old '93 Probe, I noticed no oil was leaking out of the filter when I was unscrewing it. Oil ALWAYS came out of it, so I knew something was up. When I got it all the way off, I turned it upside down...NOTHING came out. You could hear oil swishing, stuck inside the filter, when I would shake it back and forth. Apparently, the drainback valve or whatever in the oil filter stuck shut, causing the engine to run without an oil filter for who-knows-how-long (I did the oil on that car every 4k).
The type of filter? FRAM
I only bought them because with the way the Mazda 2.0 was in that car, it was impossible to get a normal filter off without the textured coating the Frams have on the end. After that, I put a Purolator on, and sold the car shortly thereafter. That was weird...
