Do NOT use a Purolator Oil Filter for an LT1!!!

I now have to replace mine, less than 1000 miles later. My car, which never leaked a drop of oil before, started gushing today in the top of my driveway. Thank god I noticed as I pulled out. I jacked her up, and the oil filter was soaked. First reaction, tighten it, But it was already SUPER tight ???. So I start the car up and get under it with my creeper. It was literally SPRAYING out the side wall of the filter, with a pin hole in it so small that you can barely see it with your bare eye. This filter is only about a month old. At most 1000 miles on it. And its not like it was hit with anything, There are no nicks chips scratches or dents in it. So I donno what the hell ... Im thinking of getting a K&N Wrench off oil filter. How are they? Also what oil is the best for an LT1, I am using 5W30 Mobil 1 right now, but I remember Patman said that Castrol Syntec from germany or europe somewhere dominated Mobil in the oil analysises. However all the Sytec I find is from right here is the US... I also thought he said it produced better results with 10W30 than 5W30. Can you get 10W30 Mobil 1?

Check Autozone for the German made Castrol. Be sure to read the back panel to be sure it's the German oil.

I have been using the pure one filters for quite a while with no problems. Sounds like a fluke.

I guess ... It just realy annoyed me that a company known to make good filters could have made something that thin that it blew out lol ... Thanks btw about the oil at Autozone ... I dont think there is one close but im going to check in the phone book tommorow.

doesnt purolater make oilfilters for everybody?? like fram and quakerstate. Ive been using k&ns for 3yrs now, usually stock up when the go on sale. but even the no-name brands like "motomaster"(canadian tire brand) did me fine.

Just sounds like a defective filter, even the best of filters fail sometimes, there is not going to be a 100% perfection on what leaves the factories loading dock.

Why not just go with Ac delcos, they are cheap and good quality

i use the k&n 3002, the 1" wrench off really makes taking off and putting on the filter a lot easier

Yea I started using the K&N. Even when I only put it on hand tight when I went to take it off the next time I couldn't get it off with my hand. That 1" on the end makes it easy.

I have been using pure-ones for six years and I sold them for 3 years, never had ANY problems with them. Take it back and have them exchange it for you. BTW the pure-one has a very high efficiency rating and I know it is a better filter than fram, acdelco and several others. I have never seen KnN's efficiency rating or mobilone. Anyone know these numbers. I think pure ones multipass efficiency is 98% per SAE standard.
