I cleaned my trans out a few months ago. Cleaned out the pan good, emptied the lines that i could get to and even siphoned some out. I couldnt really tell exactly how much i took out. I put in a new filter and added 5-8 quarts dexron 3 mercon(cant remember exactly how many). I am a little worried lately because i am having a sloppy shift from 2-3.

I check the trans level and the level is above hot. It always seems to be above hot no matter what on the dipstick. I attributed that maybe i put in too much so i didnt worry much. I am also thinking that there may be too little fluid and its overheating. How can i tell and should i siphon some out?

Will it hurt anything to have a quart or two extra fluid in there?

Btw, any additives that i should toss in?

 

if you overfill it too much, the fluid will touch the rotating parts and air will be mixed with the fluid, i would take some out, 1/2 quart at a time.
as far as additives... i wouldn't use them
