Distributor problem?
Distributor problem?
I posted a few weeks ago with a problem about my 96 LT1. The car would start to jump speeds after about 15 minutes of running and the Tachometer would drop to zero. When we shut the car off, it would not come back on until it was cool again. Run for 15 minutes or so and turn off.
Well since then we have replaced many major parts and it still did the same thing. (plugs, opti, tention pully, crackshaft sensor) Well we went and put in a new distributor and coil, got them in, car started fine...then after about 4 minutes or so it died and will no start back up again. Could my timing be off, rather could it have jumped? In addition I am not getting any spark from the plugs.

Re: Distributor problem?
you said in your post that you replaced the opti, did you replace the whole unit or the cap and rotor? the opti IS the distributor. timing is controlled by the computer, its not adjustable. if you jumped a timing gear it would run like crap all the time.
if you aren't getting any spark to ANY of the plugs then the coil is probably bad. i think you said you replaced that too but your post is rather confusing, maybe you could clarify.
your problem could be as easy as a bad O2 sensor, i know when mine went my car would run fine until it got warmed up and into closed loop mode.

Re: Distributor problem?
Sorry, I replaced the whole Opti unit. The car cranks over and doesn't make any akward noise, and doesn't get any spark. I still believe I am getting fuel.
The coil was replaced and so was the ignition module.
