Disconnecting T56

Disconnecting T56

I removed my engine and trans but can not get them separated completely. Do i need to remove the shifter from the transmission for them to separate? I know this may seem like a dumb question but i've never removed a T56 before nor have i ever removed a engine from the bottom until tonight.

The most common error is not disengaging the clutch fork.

How would i do that? Only transmission work i've done is an SRT4.

Remove the slave cylinder, and adapter block. Pull the clutch fork straight back. You'll know when it's disconnected, as it'll be obviously loose.

So i'll be able to do this by hand and straight back towards the rear of the trans? It's sitting on the gargage floor right now. The adapter block is what the slave was bolted to correct?

Yeah, it's pretty simple. Take off the two 13mm nuts, pull the slave out, remove the block. The fork pulls straight out of the hole, not back. It's literally a fork, wrapped around the T/O bearing.

It'll actually pull down like you're trying to pull it out of the transmission. And yes, you can do this by hand.

OK thanks. Will i have to re seat the bellhousing to the engine to make this work? I removed all the bellhousing bolts and it slide apart about 2 inches.

Just push it back in, you shouldn't have to bolt it back up. The fork isn't really in there very tight. It's just held in by the T/O bearing, and a spring clip.
