Disabling the progressive door locks.
I had this posted in Custom Car Audio and electronics but no one seemed interested so I thought I'd post here in case anyone else wanted to try it. Recently I ran across this article http://www.ls1camaro.net/sections.p...rticle&artid=28 and I wondered if it could be done on an older car. Mine is a 95 that I've owned since new. I've always hated having to press the unlock button twice. I found the module on my car behind the passenger side kick panel in a black plastic sheath. The wires will both be tan. Mine was the closest one to me. To make sure, you can hook a voltmeter up to it and lock and then unlock both doors. The correct wire will only show a voltage spike on the lock and second unlock click. Cut and splice into your remaining tan wire (not the one going back into the module) and presto! No more annoying double click. Just thought I'd share.
I believe on 93's they didn't have that feature. Progressive door locks work like this. With your remote you press the lock button and both doors lock. Press the unlock button and only the drivers' side door unlocks. Press unlock a second time and to get the passengers' side door unlocked. Why did GM do this? I don't know. Never made sense to me. Anybody know why?
cause if you are running to your car and someone that u dont like is running from the other side you can only unlock your door so you can get in but they cant........dumb reason but thats the only thing i can think of

well, if you think about it, its for safety. If you're getting in your car alone, like I'd say half the people that drive camaros do, why would you want to unlike both doors and give someone the opportunity to jump into your passenger side door and rob you. Although I usually lock the doors after I get in anyway.
Thanks everyone for explaining this. The safety thing actually makes sense. Luckily I'm usually with a beautiful young woman (my future wife) when I go somewhere but if she ever leaves me (I spend way too much time on the internet and with my car) then I can always reverse it.

I find the progressive unlock a pain most of the time, too. Thanks for the info.
