Difference between the steering setup between 93 and 95...

Guys I was wondering whats the difference between the steering on a 93Z28 and a 95 Trans Am...the reason I ask is my car and my best friends car have a completely different feel when behind the wheel...his steering is almost exactly like my IROC did very communative and you can really feel the road...my TA on the other hand feels kinda numb and less in tune with the road...just wondered what the differences were...

If you get an answeer let me know.

I have a 95Z and I think the steering is quite numb, too. I've been wondering about what I might do to "fix" this. I've thought about the rag joint eliminater but, I really don't know. I've considered a manual rack and pinion, but again, I just don't know what the issue is.

Should be the same steering gear if they both are equipped with RPO FE2, which most (if not all) Z's have.

Lots of factors affect your steering: alignment, tire pressure, tire size (wider tires), suspension (are both cars stock suspension?), bushing wear (both cars have the same mileage on them?), rag joint wear (age and heat from exhaust). A lot of guys have found that their rag joint got sloppy with age/heat...Unbalanced Engineering sells a rag joint eliminator that replaces the rubber piece with an aluminum disk to tighten up the steering.

I would say that wheels/tires/pressure can make the biggest difference that you will feel most easily.

I was running 245/45/17 he's running 255/50/16s...pressure I am usually around 32psi...I don't know about his...one other thing his tends to follow grooves in the road like crazy it tracks all over the place kinda like my IROC...mine isn't nearly as bad does that mean there is possibly something wrong with either of the cars?

Most times, the wider the tire, the more it wants to follow ruts. Tread pattern and tire construction can play a part, too. My 275/40/17s track ruts noticeably.

I'll have my 275's on here pretty soon...maybe it'll change the way the car feels...
