Did Pep Boys Screw Me?

Let me give you a little background. Until just last week I had not turned my car on in 8 months. A couple weeks ago I changed out my opti, water pump and installed the Taylor OVC kit. On Monday I drove my car for a total of probably 2 hours. Ran just fine but I took my car into Pep Boys because my E-Brake cable snapped. So today I get a call and the guy says it's done and mentions that I have an oil leak. He said it looked like it was coming from the oil filter so I figured it was bad and I'll change it because I planned to do an oil change anyway.

Well, I get home and the oil is practically pouring out. I did my oil change and it's still pouring out but ONLY when the car is running. I don't understand how I could have been driving it for almost a week with NO problems leaking (I've never had an oil leak problem on this car).

After my oil change I checked underneath to check the filter and it's fine. The oil is leaking from the triangular metal piece by the driver side wheel. I'm sorry I don't know what it's called but I think it's odd that only AFTER I drop my car off does it start MASSIVLY leaking! I could understand if a small leak started to formulate but to go from nothing to just pouring oil? Sounds to me like they may have punctured something!

*************UPDATE****************

OK I'm pretty sure I found the leak. I'm not sure what it is but it was just sitting by the oil filter. It wasn't plugged into anything. I just pulled it down to take a picture about 15 minutes ago. Anybody know? And if so where does it plug into? I couldn't find where it goes. Thanks for all your help guys!

I wouldn't trust pep boys to put air in my tires.

That definitely sounds fishy. Is the triangular piece..does it appear to be punctured? I mean if it is, there's no way you could have driven the car there without leaving a massive trail, and possibly locking up your engine from oil loss, as well as pissing it all over their property? Sounds to me like they did it....

triangular metal peice by the wheel?

nothing there by your wheel should have oil....

oil should stay within the block completely- unless you have an oil cooler...

hell i cant think of anything triangular in the car at all

also, there shouldn't be anythig going on with your drivers side wheel at all-

ebrake goes to the rear wheels and locks those, not the front!

Gotta love Pep Boys.

Yeah, I need to take a picture or something because I don't know what the name is. And yes, I do have an oil cooler and now that you mention it, that is the aprox area the leak appears to be coming from. But I guess what I'm most curious about is how my car can be running perfectly fine and then all of a sudden start dumping oil so rapidly? That's the part that really got me...

I think I would be making a phonecall to the manager up there! Make sure you use strong, powerful words though to let him know that you know what you are talking about. Please tell me that you have gone through puberty though, otherwise, he will treat ya like a lil kid and tell ya, sorry.

My guess is the oil pump bolt on top of the filter is loose. Its a classic common problem. I tighten mine everytime I change the oil and its always a bit loose.
