Did my opti die? Or did my motor die?
Did my opti die? Or did my motor die?
Hey guys I was driving in the rain and hit some puddles, then about a 1/4 mile down the road my car started drving like **** acting like it wanted to die. My check guages light came on and I instinctivly looked at my oil pressure gauge and it was at zero so I shut the car off and let it roll to the side of the road. I waited a little while and tried starting it again and it wouldn't start, after a few more times trying to start it, it backfired so I had it towed home.
The thing that makes me think it's the opti is that my water pump went out a few months ago and when I replaced it the opti got wet and the car wound not start for 3 days. But the fact that my oil pressure guage went to zero has me worried. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Re: Did my opti die? Or did my motor die?
You should be able to crank the motor over and build oil pressure, with out starting it. You could pull the plugs to make it crank easier. Drip some oil in the cylinders if you're worried about scaring the walls. Mine would build around 20 psi just cranking it. If it won't build any pressure, then something is wrong. When these cars are hot and are about ready to die, the oil pressure gets pretty low. You also could have broken the timing chain, therefore not have a turning oil pump. Just some suggestions and ideas. I wish you luck.
