Did i damage my engine?
My CSI waterpump died on me last night and in about 2 minutes the temp went from 160 to just below redline before i shut it down. Could this have damaged the engine, warped heads etc? I am very concerned at this point.
I had a similar situation a while back, it all depends on how long it stayed hot. Mine stayed from about 235 for about 30 seconds then went right under redline. At that point i shut it off and let it cool down before i started it back up. I was worried sick probably like you are because i just got the car. It turns out everything was fine and still runs ok so far. Knock on wood. It should be fine as long as it did not get in the red and stay there for a while. One way to check for damage is for steam out the tale pipe, then you got a blown head gasket but you should be fine.
i honestly wouldnt stress it and try not to be too paranoid :P... if you didnt let it run long at all and it didnt even hit red line, which means it must have not been on too long after it happened any way, i think you should be ok... and if something did get damaged, you will surely notice one way or another :P..

About 2 years ago my 95 z lost it's stock water pump and the temp went almost into the red. I shut it down and thought i may have blew my head gasket but after the water pump was replaced it ran fine. I must admit though for some reason occasionally while sitting at a red light the car idles real rough like it's about to shut off. I have 118,000 miles on the original engine and 2nd gear is slipping innthe auto trans. Forgive me if I sound like a novice when it comes to mechanics of the car because I am. I love my z and I plan on putting a new trans in it. Any suggestions on what I should replace the original with. Mind you I'm not made of money got to put a kid through school (hehe). I thought the rough idle may have been due to plugs but the plugs are only 6months old. I put Bosch Platinums in it, and by the way replacing those plugs were a B_tch!!!!!!! any advice would be great. My future plans are basically to make it restored original.
Last year I was in a drive-thru and all of the sudden noticed steam from the hood, looked down and I was in the red. Hurried up and parked, no damage, but coolant did gush out everywhere on the ground. Narrowed it down to air pockets in the coolant system. I pulled the heads back in January and all was well.
Thanks guys for all the replies. I feel better now
I am gonna get my water pump all fixed up tomorrow and see how she runs after that.
Just in case, what are the typical blown head gasket symptoms?

I did some troubleshooting this morning and it turns out that the power wire got pinched and broke. Ran a jumper wire and it works again! Woohoo
When i run it today i will check for any of those symptoms. thanks!
