wish i had the camaro white book or something around
is there evidence of a speedo change? i know the 2.73's didnt have the 1st gear on the auto (well, they did, but it was blocked by a plastic plate) and i thought along with them was the 110 mph speedo
but i may be off, and it may only be based on what tires you choose

[B]all Zs come with 150... but some are governed to 118 due to v6 (t rated) tires) quote
Thats BS....b/c I have a 94' Z28, with the 115mph gauge...u can even run my VIN if you'd like to confirm it...It had a 2:73' gear from the factory also..

I have a 94Z M6 ragtop with the 110 speedo, and the replacement 150MPH is now waiting to go in. I bought the car new, so I checked it out at the time. BTW, getting your hands on a new, red 6 speed ragtop in '94 was just about impossible, so when I finally found mine, the speedo didn't keep me from buying it.
Anyway, there is one, and only one reason a Z28 got the 110 speedo. The speed rating of the tires. That simple. Federal regulation BS. The standard touring tires weren't rated to 150, so no go on that speedo for those cars. Totally stupid, eh?
For some reason, more ragtops came with the touring tires than hardtops, hence the 110 speedo. IIRC, there was some small difference in the options packages, and on the ragtops it was easier for the lame tires to sneek by unnoticed on the order sheet.
And the limiter, at least in '94, was right at 110MPH.

It was only 93 and 95 V8 cars with non z rated tires that got the 110 Limiter/speedo . After that even the governed cars " Z28,TA,FORMULA " had 150+ speedo's. wether they where governed or not .

It has to do with whether the tires were Z rated or not, regardless of whether they were 235/55/16 or 245/50/16. My car originally came with the 235/55/16 S-rated tires, has the 110 speedo, and originally had the limiter. It's a coupe with a M6, 3.42 gears (only option in 94 with M6). If I remember correctly, they did away with the 110 speedo in the 1995 Z28s and only put in the 150 speedo, regardless of the tire rating. So this only effects the 93-94 cars.
If you had an automatic with 2.73 gears and all-season radials, you got the 110mph speedo. Your top speed would be governed to 110mph as well.
If I'm not mistaken, the only time you would get a 150mph speedo is with the 3.23 performance axle, as well as with the Z-Rated tires.
I've got the Camaro White Book somewhere at home. I'll have to dig it up and check to make sure.

but then again i'm impatient (probably like everyone else on here, thats why we drive f-bodies). of course once your doing 130, it takes for freaking ever to get to 150. thats a freaky feeling though. waiting to get to 150. ever turn on your wipers going that fast.
scared the crap out of me the first time i did it. i thought they were coming off for sure. -yeah, i would definitely push the car past 118. you dont know what your missing!! its a different a whole different world once your over 120. just be careful. i'm lucky enough to have a smooth back road thats over five miles long to play on. on the highway you can catch up to other traffic really fast.
I have gotten up to 150mph. I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!!! It is really scary going that fast, any little bump or debris in the road and your *** is going to wipe out. I honestly thought I was going to crash. You cant even move the steering wheel and forget about appling the brakes!!!!! I had to just put it in neutral and cost until I hit about 90 till I started to apply the brake!!! Oh yea…..I have a 150mph speedo with the 3.42 in the back!!!
My 94 vert came with 2.73's, which also meant you could not select first gear also. It also has the 110mph speedometer, and it had a 108 limiter.
So far i have been able to change most of that with new tires, gears, cutting out the stop for first gear, programming, and i have the 150mph speedo to go in, but i am not sure how hard it will be, so i have left it alone for awhile.
