I'm going to venture to say it's fuel pump related. If you haven't already, put a fuel guage on it and see what your pressure is. I'm wondering if they fuel pump isn't overheating causing the problems you are having.

I think that only works for the '93 models. I believe you have to scan the PCM for OBDI and on...

Re: the devil just setup shop in my LT1

that is what the haynes manual told me to do, said i could get it scanned or pull codes like that.

the ALDLcable website also says the same thing.

Since we are looking at the connector pins, it should be mentioned here that a quick method to see which trouble code or codes are being set in your cars ECM is to jumper the A and B pins of the 12 pin ALDL OBD1 connector with a paper clip. While the car is off, sitting still, turn the ignition key forward while this jumper is in place. Do not start the car. The Service Engine Soon ( SES ) light will flash in a repeating sequence, telling which trouble codes have been set in the ECM. A service manual for your year car will have a chart outlining what each trouble code stands for, or this Trouble Code website can be of help. This paper clip method will tell you the trouble code or codes set in your ECM, but it will not tell you what conditions the trouble code is being set under, or let you clear the trouble codes on the fly, as the ALDL cable and PC setup will.

I don't get jack except a CHECK ENGINE light and all the fans and junk come on under the hood.

Aren't you putting the cart before the horse? The most frequent cause of both hi and low res failures is wiring. Have you even checked the 3 connections from the opti to the PCM? Let alone put an ohm meter on them. Ever seen these?

Re: the devil just setup shop in my LT1

I knew you would like the program, its worth buyin the cable to be able to use it. Plus you will be all set down the road should you decide to get LT1 edit or any other type of tuner program.

It could be the wiring, but opti's are known for goin bad too. I would check the wiring first thing, it might just be a problem there, or it could be the entire opti as well. I have done enough opti's between my car and my buddies that we can have it changed in a couple hours.

Something that I do that helps keep your work area clean is to take your standard wet/dry shop vac and suck the coolant out of block thru the top of the water pump. You won't get it all obviously, but it sure does beat havin it spill everywhere when you take the pump off...its also quicker than usin a regular pump gun to pull the coolant out.

If your vac is all clean, no reason not to reuse the coolant unless its getting old. If it is, good time to do a flush while you have most of it drained anyway.

Re: the devil just setup shop in my LT1

i pulled the connector off the opti and it looked perfect , i tested ohms from the gray to the opti connecter and all the wires tested good. what should I test on the black connector?? i'd have to pull my ECU out to track down the harness and the book doesn't really tell me jack about that either.
