Dented Y Pipe (Pics Indside)

I ran over a piece of asphalt about the size of a brick the other night. The Y-Pipe from my Mac headers hangs just below the K-Member so that is what got creamed. It has a pretty big dent in it although it is kind of hard to see in the pics. I will post more pics as soon as i can get them. I am going to get it fixed, but i didnt know if it would be a better idea to take the Y-Pipe to an exaust shop or to order a new Y-Pipe from Mac. My exaust is pretty restrictive anyway...so I can't feel a significant power loss, although I'm sure there is one. What kind of power do you think that I am losing.

Re: Dented Y Pipe (Pics Indside)

That's nothin' compared to the dent I got in my Mac Y pipe. I ran over something also but I don't know what it was. Mine was dented where the two go into one. I drove it for years like that and didn't notice any difference at the track or on the street from before to after the dent. I brought it to a good muffler shop and they said it couldn't be fixed. So I brought it to a friend that works at a Nissan parts dealership and he brought it back to the body shop who then sorta fixed it. At least it's better than before. Then I sent it with the headers to Jet Hot who originally coated them for a new coating. Everything looks brand new now.

Ouch, that sucks. In my honest opinion, from what I have learned with exhaust ground clearence issues, I would not bother with it. If you buy a new one, it will most likely hang in the same spot, and if you hit something again, then you might dent that one. Thats just what I have learned. Also, it might be hurting your top end a tiny bit, but will give more backpressure which if you have the right amount of backpressure, it is better for building botom end. Just my 2 cents.

It doesn't look THAT bad... certainly not worth the hassle of replacing it.

On the note of exhuast dents though... my over the axel pipe has been smashed it! I think my panhard arm crunched it.. I mean, you should see it lol

Thats really not all that bad. I hit my mac y pipe on the ground and it had about a four inch flat spot in the bottom. Couldnt tell a bit of difference.

Re: Dented Y Pipe (Pics Indside)

LOL here we go with the backpressure thing again...
Are you losing horsepower with a dent in your y-pipe? Probably. Is it a difference that you could even measure on a dyno? I doubt it. Pacesetter ORYs have a flat spot on one side for clearance. I wouldn't waste my time with that.
