Over 10% denatured alcohol is corrosive so I guess that would be the limit. as to if it will lower your emissions-i can't say. It is an oxygenated fuel so probably some.

You know how some areas have a sign on the pumps saying "may contain 10% ethanol" that is basically what you would be doing and I would try to limit it to around 10% and try to burn it out fairly quick as it will soak up moisture.

not sure if it actually works but you could try putting mid grade in there to lower emissions. a few of my friends said a slight bit lower octane will burn more complete giving lower emissions. I wouldn't run it for very long like that if it's true.

If you don't want to go that route you can try methanol which you can buy in any part store. It can be found in some antifreeze solvent treatment. I should know, cause it work for me.

Re: denatured alcohol in gas tank

You run it through a full tank. Do not run the emmissions with it in your tank. It will be off of the charts. I had doubt in my mind as to what it would do to your tank. So i started off with 2 gallons of 93 octant and added 1 quart (Yes it's a quart, not a half gallon, and it costs $4 from Wal-Mart), and drive around on that. No problems, no stumbling, no knocking. I dont know that is helped, but it didnt hurt anything, so it's safe to run it. It's helped the rest of my cars, so i would try it.

Re: denatured alcohol in gas tank

I know of 3 people that used denatured alcohol or a LOT of "HEET" brand gas antifreeze/water remover to help with emissions. Id get about 3 gallons of gas in there and about 1/2 gallon of denatured alcohol or about 8 bottles of heet. Itll lower emissions noticably. Id just burn up most of it right after the test then top it off with some good 93.

Denatured alcohol will not hurt the motor. I know a guy that sprayed gallons upon gallons through his turbo motor to keep it form knocking. Itll make your eyes water at the levels he was running. That did no damage to his motor at all. Actually saved it from spark knocking itself to death. So im sure a couple gallons dilluted with some denatured alcohol would do absolutely nothing to harm your motor.

Go head and light a tiny puddle of it, careful you probably wont see the flame, or any kind of smoke... It burns VERY clean.
