Question delteq question

I was reading on delteq's page about their product and came across a line that says that, if the opti's electronic connections or something like that go bad.. then you have to replace the opti all together anyway. So my question is, how often does this happen that the opti is too bad to even use with the delteq opti delete package? Would it just be better to get dynatech's dynaspark opti replacement? They claim to be able to take water and heat and cold very well. Is there something I am missing throughout all this somewhere? Thanks in advance!

Re: delteq question

The only part of the opti that has to work is the cam thingy (i wish i knew the name), but since GM doesn't sell the part by it's self so you have to buy the whole opti.

Supposedly that part doesn't go out often.

cam position sensor - they're much less prone to faliure than the actual opticrap - i have a delteq and it was worth EVERY SINGLE penny!

Re: delteq question

The optical portion is what fails. It does fail quite a bit, but many times it's due to the large amount of voltage present in the opti cap. Removal of the voltage from the cap almost guarantees no problems. You can get a used opti many times under $150 and it will have a good optical eye in it.

Re: delteq question

on a side note...pillagenburn, my buddy just installed the deltech and he is having a weird problem that was never there before. only after the deltech. the deltech is the only thing we can trace it to. the wiring is all done correctly so we cant figure it out. its got a miss at high rpm under heavy throttle. every once in a while it happens while cruising but not often at all.

check all plug and plug wire seating - make sure everything is snug and fitment is correct. If not that, then check fuel pressure - I had a miss develop too but it turned out that I hadn't seated one of the spark plug boots correctly on the spark plug (cylinder #6 to be exact .. complete PITA to get at!!!!)..... other than that, try to send it back for an exchange - the guys at delteq are nice and i'm sure they'd help you.

Re: delteq question

well the good news is, the national head rep. or whatever lives 15 minutes away. he delivered the system personally. real nice guy. but my buddy just had a baby on new years day. so he really hasent had time to get around to calling him. we messed with the fuel pressure on his adjustable fuel pressure regulator. he seemed to get better but the computer sets it back to its setting after a little while.
