The design flaw of the optispark was only the high voltage side. The optical sensors and encoder wheel are as close to bullet proof as you can get.
I removed the front half of my optispark years ago and sealed the rear chamber. You can also just pull the spark plug wires off and leave it there. The automatics still use the hi/lo rez signals for shifting.
The Opticrap legend is also exagerated with the aftermarket MSD boxes that increase the voltage through the distributor.
The Delteq company is going for the heart of the problem of LT1's. It is the perfect cure for the Optispark.

Good Luck

I've gotten the "low res pulse error" code a few times, the optical side isn't bulletproof, however it is more reliable than the other side. If the bearings were higher quality, the optical side would probably be bullet proof. They tend to rust, and obviously rust+optical sensors doesn't work out too well. I'd rather just get rid of the whole damn'd thing

I dunno...out of the 2 T/A's I have had I have yet to have an opti fail on me, and if it does its less than $200 to replace...so I could buy 3 opti's for what all these other systems are costing me...

BTW the first car had 79k miles and this one has 72k miles...all on the original opti...

You are a lucky soul

A friend of mine just bought a T/A, it runs good but has a slight miss, so he's replacing the opti. It'd probably last a lot longer, but isn't running quite right, not sure if you would have noticed any improvement had you replaced the opti anyways, but its definetly possible. Many people have reported their cars running better than ever before after replacing an opti.

And Im sure your just making GOBS of power with those major mods you have in your sig to even make an opti even want to break That's great that your car is pretty much stock and slow but some people that have 12 & under cars need something better than stock

That's great man, but my logic is as follows:

I have the money to greatly decrease the chances of the opti killing my car or causing problems. So since I need to replace my opti, I'd rather just upgrade this once and get it done with.

Also, I've read the DELTEQ offers a stronger spark. Interesting stuff.
