Delco platinums suck.

A little more evidence for what we already know - four pucks missing after 12k miles.

Re: Delco platinums suck.

Hence the reason I routinely use NGKs or Autolites.

Re: Delco platinums suck.

I'm using autolites now, but my original set of Delcos were still running strong at 120k miles when I replaced them...

Honestly, if you aren't heavily modded, spark plugs are spark plugs...

This man speaks the truth. I had the stockers in there for about 85-90k miles, then replaced them with another set of ACdelco platinums and even ran those with a HOTcam and some basic ported heads with no problems.

Im with fastZ! I had platniums in for 15000 miles on a 383 with the hotcam kit, no problems at all. The only reason I went to rapidfires was becuase I cant get rid of that stupid "corona effect" crap.

Plus I work for GM, and I asked the techs about the pucks falling off, and they look at me like I am a retard from mars or something. They have never ever seen it, and they just shake their head and walk away. Maybe people are gapping them wrong or something, cuz they never have prblems in any other motor, including the LT1's baby, the LS1. Something is fishy here why LT1's on this board are loosing pucks, I wonder honestly what it is!!!

Re: Delco platinums suck.

I'm not sure but when I swapped plugs on my car at 76k, the factory platinum delcos were missing well over half the pucks. There was one plug that had both still on it, and one plug that both were gone. The other 6 were missing one either on the electrode or the ground strap.

Re: Delco platinums suck.

I've ran AC Delco platinums in every GM vehicle I've ever owned. No problems whatsoever. EVER.

When my engine was stock, I installed Bosch platinums; car ran like crap. Replaced them the next day with AC Delcos and the car ran perfect and none of the wires were installed incorrectly. So I don't consider all spark plugs to be equal.

"94 stock, changed original Delcos at 50k, every plug was missing the puck on
the ground electrode. People I talk to say this is quite common.

Re: Delco platinums suck.

Despite the pucks falling off I haven't ever really heard of it being directly linked to a poor running condition.

And about cars running like s*** with Bosch plugs: I don't really consider Bosch anything when I make statements, since I don't put any of their products on my cars

Then let me give you an example based on my experience with two sets of the stock AC/Delco platinum plugs, over approx. 25K miles per set. In each case, more than 1/2 of the plugs had lost one or both of the platinum pucks.

Lose one puck and the gap becomes 0.075". The stock ignition "may" fire that gap. Lose both pucks, and the gap becomes 0.100". Tell me what ignition will fire that reliably = poor running condition (actually, at that point the MSD-6A was strong enough that the wires started cross-firing when the spark couldn't jump the 0.100" gap).
