Haven't seen a cam maker yet that didn't give an intake CL for their cam card specs. If your lobe seperation is 110º and the specs are for a cam installed at 106º intake centerline, then the cam has 4º advance ground in.
Yes, the specs need to be checked. It's not just the cam you are checking, it is the whole assembly and the tolerance stacking that is involved in any mechanical assembly. It could be the cam... it could be the timing chain or gears, but you will never know unless you check. Just like checking piston to valve clearance. It's just one of those things you have to do and correct if necessary.
