Decision time on shorty headers: Coated Macs or SLP?

Okay, I need your help on this one. It's decision time. I've ruled out longtubes for several reasons. My main goals here are high quality and ease of installation.

So...

Which should I get? Coated Macs or SLP? If I go with the SLP, do I need to get them coated? I know they are stainless steel, so I wasn't sure how well they would hold up.

Help me decide!

I would not buy a non-coated header. So it's either extra $$$ for the coated SLP's or less money for the coated MAC's.

I just got done installing the Jet-Hot Coated MAC's and they fit GREAT. No clearance problems.

If both are coated, the SLP's will be a little better for high RPM power, but slightly worse for low end power. (based on header theory anyways)

Your choice. I chose MAC's. They look and sound awesome, and have proven great performance.

The SLP's will handle more power if you ever go HUGE with your cam or forced induction or Nitrous.

MAC'S COATED!
Good plug access and coating is a MUST! Do it right the first time, otherwise you'll pay for it later on.

If you don't plan on going over 400rwhp go with the MACs. If you have big plans for your car, get the SLPs coated and enjoy.

The MAC's are a great bang for the buck. I ordered mine straight from JET-HOT. However they are still on back order and I've been waiting about 3 weeks. My friend had MAC's on his 96 SS and they made awsome power. You will like them, and they sound pretty mean too.

Either one would be a great header. I highly recommend coating if you are driving in all types of weather (snow).

Alot of people have both of these headers, I dont think you can go wrong with either.

Most people dont have their SLP's coated so I dont think its that big of a deal, they usually just get a minimal amount of surface rust, which is only a cosmetic concern.

But in my opinion the best quality would be SLP. But the easiest install would be MACs. Headers are going to be a pain to install either way. Pick what YOU want and you wont wonder what might have been with the other ones.

Decisions decisions... these posts have been helpful - thank you!

I'm not building my car up to 400HP or anything - mainly, I would like better fuel mileage and a small power gain. So, durability and ease of install are most important. Coated shorty Macs are starting to look good to me. Can I get these from Jet-Hot?

Okay, on average, what would the price difference be between Coated Macs and Coated SLP headers?

Thanks again!

Coated MACS = $560ish

Coated SLPs = $750ish

Power gains are variable. I am not sure of the curves or the area underneath, seeing as how MAC quotes 28.4 at the wheels, but supplies no graph to prove it or show the curve. As far as SLP they are guaranteed to produce more torque and horsepower than any other header with the same tube size and application currently available, up to 25 additional horsepower depending on application. Its hard to tell without graphs to show where the curve moves or peaks or the area under it.

Header coatings are to keep underhood temperatures down and I wouldn't go without the coating. The Mac headers have great plug access! I don't believe the Macs are smog legal even though they have all the correct fittings. If smog is an issue you can get a smog cert from another set of headers (JBA, SLP) to show if asked by your smog guy.
