when i put my cam in which is a ZZ9 from TPIS i kept the stock timing chain, got new springs that was it, the stock chain will hold alot, so you really dont have to get a stronger one unless you ant to spend the money.

I haven't actually purchased the gaskets and opti..the gasket set as stated on the thunder racing website is like 88.00.. I'm pretty sure I saw someone say a new vented opti is like 280 from Jason Cromer.. that still leaves me with over a 100 left over.. so that's going towards my timing chain.

i would shell out the money for a decent chain people break stockers and it isn't that rare either. If that happens get ready to spend a lot of money to fix it.

Do all of the aftermarket chains require an electric water pump? I'm going to be doing an LT1 build-up in my garage over the winter and I would prefer to stay away from electrics myself.

Thanks for the advice, i'm saving up for the lt4 timing chain.. that doesn't need a electric water pump, does it?
