Decided to throw a cam my Z
Decided to throw a cam my Z
I wasn't planning on doing a cam for quite some time but I couldn't help myself. I purchased the hotcam kit (minus the rockers) from another board member. So, with that being said, what will I need other than the rockers to complete the cam install?
The engine only has 65,000 on her, but I decided to replace the opti since it's coming off anyways!
This is what I will be getting:
New opti
1.6 Rockers
pushrods
Timing chain (would a stock chain be suffice?) or should I still keep the one I have now?)
or anything else i'm missing?
thanks

Valve springs, retainers, and locks, and shims (depending on the springs). Not to menchen all the gaskets you need to replace in the install; Water pump, timing cover, Valve covers.
You can get a complete cam replacement gasket kit from Thunder Racing. I would highly recommend changing your springs. I am not sure if the stock LT1 springs can even handle the hotcam lift. At minimum you should get the LT4 springs.

He says he got the kit so I'm thinking he got all the springs, retainers and stuff.
As for the timing chain, I'd go with the Extreme Duty chain. Might as well while your in there.

What should I pay on average for this to be installed?

...or save $100 and get a Cloyes C3039 timing chain kit. Just as good, if not better than the LT4 ED. You can generally get this at any OReilly's auto parts store or off their website.

wouldn't the electric water pump not be a good idea? since this is my daily driver?
I would go with the extreme duty chain too that is what i am running. I made the decision to keep the stock waterpump when my friends electric pump quit on him for the 3rd time causing his car to get almost to 260. It has since over heated a few more times. He did a very good job on the wiring and install but just has problems with it. I have yet to have any problems with my stocker though.
