Daytime running lamps for 95TA
Well, tonight I fixed my headlights. Everytime I turned them off, the 'grinded' away the nylon gears. So tonight I took the brackets off and did the notorious 'turn the gear around' mod. Now when I turn on my lights, the driver side grinds for about 5 seconds after being up, and the passenger side goes up fine w/o grinding. Now when they go down they are silent and don't grind away like crazy!
Also, I have no idea how this happened....but now when I turn on my parking lights the headlights DON'T pop up.....explain this please?!?
So now i have one grinding headlight after its up, both work fine going down, and the parking lights come on w/o the lights popping up. Hmmm...

My headlights don't do that. If I turn on the headlights......then turn the switch back a notch to the parking lights they stay popped up, but when I just switch to parking lights thats all that comes on.
Sounds like you have some kind of problem. Maybe the switch.

i dont have a solution for you, but mine actually do the opposite sometimes. you go to turn the headlights on, they come on. they just dont pop up. i have to turn them on then off a couple times to get them to work. crazy damn things. they dont do it all the time. just some times. oh, and FYI- daytime running lights actually started in 97+. no real reason to write, so TTT for you.
If you want DRL's like the newer camaro/firebirds, then get this. Click on "Daytime Running Lights" and go from there.
I bought that kit and had a perfomance shop around here install it and I must say I LOVE IT!! http://www.basicintellects.com/~geo/DSCN0036.JPG It's not the best picture, but trust me, when all is done, in real life it looks excellent!

Btw, my camaro is a 95 z28, and also, the DRL's come on when you start the engine, go off when you turn it off. When the turn signal is on, one light blinks and other stays on (or off, depending on how you want it) and then when the turn is complete, the light goes off then on. Just like the newer camaros/firebird. I love it
you need new headlight gears. the car is telling you its messed up thats why they acted weird. get ahold of brent franker and buy a set of gears from him. they are cnc machined brass and should last the rest of the life of the motor and then you can always pull them back out.
as far as having a photocell for the lights to come on automatically. are you sure that was availible in 95 and that sensor to the right on the dash thats my factory alarm indicator dont go cutting that unless you are sure thats your sensor. Trey

my head lights do make noise and the problem did start around the time the gears started to make noise, but i dont understand how the noise has to do with the park lights activating the headlight motor. this has nothing to do with my DRLs, when the DRLs are one the headlights are fine, they stay down. only when i turn the switch to the park light position, hten the headlights pop up or when my alarm acitvates the parklights to flash on and off. i could try the gears but i just dont know how it would cure teh problem.

When the headlights pop up with the parking lights or arming of your alarm, this is often times related to a stripped headlight gear problem. Once the headlight gear strips (make a terrible noise when the light is raised/lowered) it freaks out the headlight control module. So, a common symptom that goes along with a stripped headlight gear is that the lights go up/down when they aren't supposed to. Fix the stripped gear problem and the other headlight gremlins go away

I've got details below for a free fix for the headlights or the brass gear that was mentioned above. Good luck!

It says on that site that when you turn on your regular headlights, the DRL's turn off. If this is the case, doesn't that mean that the parking lamps won't be on when your headlights are?

Nope. When you turn on your headlights, the DRL's will dim automatically and the regular parking lights will come on. When you turn your headlights off, the DRL's will come on automatically.

technically they are the same thing. when your driving around without the headlights on, only the front center light of the parking lights come on on bright. when you turn your headlights on, they dim and the full parking light lights up. it makes more sense to have the parking lights on bright in the daytime (otherwise you really wouldnt see them and whats the point of that) and to have them dimmed at night...
DRL's on the camaro (or trans am, corvette, etc) is just the brighter part of your bulb. Theres two...what do you call it? Filaments? Theres the bright filament and the dim filament. DRL's use the bright filament of the bulb. Then when you turn on your head lights, the bright filament turns off (DRL) and the dim filament turns on. Simple as that!
