I don't know what brand it was...I didn't assemble it.

Re: "Darn" head stud is leaking coolant. I'm livid.

Things are not good:

I count 4 leaking studs so far on the drivers side under the valve cover (not including the 2 or 3 external studs). The passenger side looks "OK" under the valve cover, but the drivers side, ugh.

Also, on that side there are 3 roller tips on my rockers that look like they started to wear out prematurely or something? I don't think I should have bronze showing already...and coincidentally, I don't know how but it was the 2nd from the front, and the rear 2 if I remember right that are like this.

OK I lied, I have 5 rocker tips that have worn, not 3.

Dexcool yeah.

On top of that as I was looking under the drivers side valve cover, I don't even have an oil coating or residue on the head there, it's like dry, way way dry. I ran my finger along the front oil drain channel and the whole area and no oil. I'm thinking for some reason, am I not getting oil up to that side of the engine?

Dexcool is what's supposed to be in there.

Why not, and what's the basis of your opinion?

Dexcool is fine...Who did assemble this engine?
I would do like the others stated and do each stud individually and make sure it seals correctly...

Not sure what cause the rocker issue but I can speculate...1)Maybe the coolant in the valve covers caused them to turn that color 2)Rockers are set too loose and it banging on the valve...

Oil does take a few mins to reach top of engine since its the last component to recieve oil...I always pour oil all over the rockers before starting up to ensure good lubrication on a new motor...

a buddy of mine that is rather well known up here for building badass forced induction setups told me the dexcool breaks down the head gaskets. something about the chemicals in it. several older dealer mechanics ive talked to have said the same thing.

Well, it was running for about 5-7 minutes with the coolant in it, and I've got oil in the top of the passenger side head, but the drivers side head is literally dry, except for the coolant in it. wned: That should have been plenty of time to get oil up there.

Re: "Darn" head stud is leaking coolant. I'm livid.

just get a bottle of "Alumaseal" from autozone (silver bottle) and put it in the radiator. will fix your leaking studs within minutes and last a real long time, if not permanently. its very common for head studs to leak, and most guys just do that to cure it with no problems, including myself. mine were leaking very badly and havent seeped one bit since putting in the alumaseal.

as for oil not getting to the valvetrain... that wouldnt be related to your leaking stud problem at all, but its definitly a big problem

Re: "Darn" head stud is leaking coolant. I'm livid.

Thanks for the info man. I'm not even going to worry about the head studs yet until I figure out why I'm not getting oil Sounds like a teardown may be in order...I can't think of anything I can check with the engine sitting in the car.

Does that alumaseal and other like products cause issues when you go to remove the studs for whatever reason?
