Unhappy dang oil pressure.

well got on it and the pressure drop to around 25-30psi and didnt drop below i dont think. What could be the problem?

I replaced oil pump with 5/8 M55 pump, new 5/8 pickup and a 70 pound spring. Set it estimatly between .200-.400 from the bottom of the pan. Didnt tak weld the pickup because it was hard as hell getting the thing on there and it didint seem like it would pop out. Another thing i replaced was the iron oil pump driveshaft assembly.

Tested to make sure the pickup didnt fall out by driving then slamming on the brakes/braking really hard. oil pressure didnt drop below 20psi. Stayed around 22-25 when braking really hard.

But the pressure doesnt drop immedialty, but it takes a few seconds before it starts dropping then gets to around 24-30 psi, so i let off and then the pressure went back up to 40psi.

I also put it into neutral and revved it up and the pressure went up and didnt fall.

Any ideas would be great.

Randy

It's your stock pan, do a search, this has been discussed many times!

Re: dang oil pressure.

A 95 should have come with a 3/4" inlet pump as stock. I would have used one of those. Some people advise to chamfer the oil entry passage on the rear main cap to avoid any reversion or cavitation possibilities.

well maybe it was the 3/4 im not sure. but i know that the old m155 pump i had the hole for that was a bit bigger than the new m55.

I heard that it doesnt matter if you go 5/8 or 3/4, as long as you have the same pickup for it....

Today i got on it again, and this time it droped only when shifting then came back up a bit, a little over 40psi maybe more and it didnt drop. But after that i would come to an idle at a light and the pressure would seriously sit right at the 1/4 mark (20 psi). Then go up when driving. And during reg cruise it sits at around 40psi and sometimes goes up to 50-55psi.

Re: dang oil pressure.

im starting to think its my sending unit because after driving for a while the pressure read around 35-38 psi when reg driving in od. And would read from 38-65 psi up and down when just reg driving. The comming to an idle it would read right at 20 and i thionk sometimes fall below 20 to like 19-18 or so.

So im going to go ahead and replace the sending unit and hopefully that works...

Re: dang oil pressure.

well replacing the sending unit made it worse. Now at idle the psi sits around 12-15 psi and durign reg driveing sits at around 35 psi. Im too scared to go WOT with this thing. But i did get on it a bit and the guage started dropping, then it shifted then the guage came back up during the 2 or 3 rd rpm band.

Re: dang oil pressure.

if your talkin at WOT i have the same problem...it has 65 psi till 5k and above then drops to 40...ive heard the problem is there is an overpressure relase spring inside the pump so once it gets a certain psi it starts to bleed off...i hear you can replace this spring and emiminate this
lmk if you fix it some other way...

Re: dang oil pressure.

1.replaced oil pump drive shaft assebly
2.replaced pump and pick up
3.changed filters
4.replaced sending unit.

ive replaced the spring with the white one and still the same problem. Im buying a windage tray and baffle now. This is the last thing to do, if this doesnt work then it must be my bearings. even though the engine has only 1500 miles on it.

You have no windage tray or pan baffle, now?

A 5/8 or 3/4 pump will have a pickup to match (it refers to the inlet pipe size). You can't use the same pickup for both.

yea no baffle or windage tray. Well i got w/e was a forced fit on the pump and pickup. Cause i remember gettign the pump, then getting one pickup and it was seriously WAY to big to put in the pump, so i got the nexted size which was more reasonable. Had to be pressed in.

btw i got a MOR-23000 and a MOR-23020 for my pan. Are these right shoebox?

Re: dang oil pressure.

I don't know about those part numbers. If you are not running a windage tray or have any pan baffles, you're asking for problems. Even the stock engine has them. They really need to be there.
