Does a cutout before the cat on a stock 3" system sound as beefy as GMMG? Does it have the same (or better) performance gains? Anybody have any spare DMH E-Cutouts lying around?

Cutouts are a cheap alternative to a real catback exhaust... but dont knock them... i am STILL running a cutout and i have ALL the bolt ons you can do. But now i am biting down and buying a 3.5" catback and a high flow cat.......WHICH, i think will net more power than a cutout........In short, if you already have a borla, a cutout is not worth it... Its just and "alternative" to a catback....

I have a Borla and a cutout on the I pipe. I actually did it just because even with headers, gutted cat, and the Borla it was not anywhere near loud enough for me. But personally I would never waste the money on an electric cutout. Its not that hard to put the cap on the cutout, and if the car gets too loud and the noise police come after me...then I was probably doing something else to attract their attention...thats always just an excuse.

I guess mine might be a little louder. I think the electric cutout is a great mod for the Borla. And as easy as the plates are to change, I never put one in. It was really interesting in the airport parking garage with me setting off every car's alarm as I went by...

I just installed a DMH electric cutout 2 days ago and I love it! Awesome quality and functionality.

I considered a catback, but decided on the cutout instead.
Reasons? It's cheaper than most catbacks, I can control the noise level from the driver's seat (DMH's motor is variable, not just open or closed) and I retained the "stock" look of the car (important to me).

To each his own I suppose ....

Thomas.

I have both the hooker catback and a DMH E-cutout. I love it. I can either go from a nice smooth deep sounding exhaust. Or with a push of a button i go to extremly loud and scary sound. I have Hooker LT's to a 4 inch mufflex y-pipe. Right after that is my cutout. When i dyno'ed my car the cutout provided 7 more hp and tq throughout the rpm range. So i say its worth it. Even if it didn't add anymore hp. The sound and ability to change it when you want to is worth it imo.

Also an E-cutout is worth it over a regular cutout if you live in an area where the cops try to find anything they can to pull you over.
