Question Cut-Out not doing anything at for E.T. on LS1

Okay Guys,
I know that this is LT1 tech, but I have a question about the cut-outs. A friend of mine has a 2000 Camaro SS, with a lid, Ram Air Mod, MAF, Nitto's and a cut-out. He has been running 13.2x, so one day at the track he decided to cap it, and run the car. the E.T.s and MPH did not change. In fact, with it capped he ran his best so far, and a improved 60' time. Is all of this because of the OBDII needs tuning for this mod? I dont have a cut-out on my 94 Z, but I am thinking about getting one. Can I expect any gain with the OBDI?

thanks

Is he running the stock catback? If not and he has an aftermarket, that catback may flow well enough to where a cutout won't help.

In most circumstances a cutout will help. I gained 1.5 MPH in the 1/8th mile opening my cutout over my Flowmaster. I would guess you would see a little gain if you added a cutout.

i've got an all-stock 97 WS6 that i'd like to put a cutout on...just after the cat...are there any issues w/ o2 sensors and/or any ODBII-specific issues that i might run into?

thanks...

Nope, no issues as long as you run it after the cats. I'd recommend putting it on the end of the i-pipe just before it goes over the rear axle.

obd-ii doesnt need tuning until you get into heads/cam, just like it is with obd-i. youll get a SES light if you take off emissions stuff, but other than that, no difference from obd-i as far as modding/tuning is concerned.

i dynoed 268 RWHP and 318 RWTQ witht the cutout closed, and the dyno in the sig is with it uncapped. it worked on my car, but form what i hear, cutouts dont work that great on a ls1 car.

thanks guys...i didn't think it would have any effect on the computer...just didn't know if it would throw an SES light due to any sensors after the cat...

i saw a post that recommended the same thing...putting it near the I-pipe...it had pics, too. i was going to take that w/ me to the mechanic but i can't seem to find the pic again.

they quoted me $40 to weld that bad boy on...sounds about right, eh?

I had a cut-out on my 2000 LS1 and it made it slower in the 1/4 mile...... I have no idea why. I ended up ditching the whole setup and putting on a Borla cat-back w/ the medium plate made the most power.

On my LT1 (1995) it definitely makes it faster though... the cut-out is good for LT1's it seems.

I don't know why your LS1 would have lost power with it, but cutouts are just as good for LS1's too.

I guess occasionally you find a car that just doesn't "respond" well to them.
