custom tune by pcmforless seemed like a waste

Ok I have a 93 z28. Has a holley avenger 58mm tb gasket matched too a stock intake. Moroso cai, bbk headers full 3" stainless exhaust flowmaster. Msd distributor streetfire coil and 6al cdi. No smog pump ac or air. All new sensors . Has richmond 4.10 gears and a 700r4 tranny. Car has new radiator waterpump tps iat sensor basically all new. I installed the chip and drove the car and did not notice a difference at all. It seemed to idle a little smoother but all in all I wasn't impressed. I also don't hve cruise control because of the bigger throttle body. I figured with my mods I should've seen a big difference. When I installed a bully dog gt tuner in my nissan titan it was like night and day. Can anybody recommend something a little more noticeable also I am looking for a 1le elbow if anyone has one for sale

That 58mm tb is not doing you any good with a stock motor,IMO you would be better off with the stock tb..A 58mm is more for someone with heads, cam, etc.

Typically 10-15HP is not quantifiable by the seat-of-the-pants meter, typical gains of a mail-order tune. Unless you show dyno evidence you can't tell either way whether or not the tune is hurting you. You have intake/exhaust with a throttle body that's too big. If you were expecting a tremendous performance boost, sorry to say but it just doesn't happen like that.

The only way you are going to really be able to tune your car properly is on a dyno.

So why does the hypertech make such a difference in the obdII cars when they're Mainly stock? I thought stock heads had decent flow numbers? I know there's alot of gains too be offered from porting and polishing them. So u think I should either put the stock tb on or upgrade heads and cam? What about the cruise is there a simple fix for this? Sorry for all the questions its my first time with a camaro. I had a nissan titan that was pretty quick before and I did all the bolt one myself.

I had ordered a tune from MadZ28, after running the tune for a month i discovered my car was running slower. IMO they won't always be able to tune your car to perfection too many variables involved. Some will be bang on, others will be out enough to loose power.

I see what ya mean. I might try.and get some dyno time only problem is the closest one is a 5 hour.drive. it.may.be worth it once my new motor gets done.

Datalog your car. Send them the datalog and let them tune accordingly (may have to rinse/repeat, etc.). That is the closest way you will get something mail order that is comparable to a dyno tune. Though, it is not very thrifty when you have to burn chips every time.

Data log like shoebox said, you may have other issues. I've ran the same bolt-on tune from pcmforless for several years. Take it to the track and see how it runs.

shoebox is right...before i started using pms and tweecer<way better for tuning....on mustangs i did the mail order deal before, and regardless how good the chip burner/tuner is..he is going off old data with similiar set-ups,and not every engine is the same...

a guy named brian who is a diablo dealer/tuner...was my best contact before i started doing my own tunes..had me make 3 runs and tune the best we could with timing/fuel ect...recorded it sent him all the info dyno sheets data logs..and when i got the chip and put it back on the dyno not only die i gain everywhere and made my tq so flat and broad you could eat off of it...the car drove like it rolled off the lot as a brand new car..

so don't fault pcmforless just yet..i bet if you send the info from a dyno run and some real time data logging while driving or at a track..i bet they could turn around a chip/burn that you will be happy with..

and yes they even say on there site 10-25hp depending on mods ect..there is alway's a variable when tuning on a "blanket" tune...hell i gained 30rwhp on a dyno session and never noticed but the 4mph gain on my trap speed and knocking 5 tenths off my time sure made me grin..lol!

Re: custom tune by pcmforless seemed like a waste

Thanks alot guys. Im gonna haveto have the chip changed anyways. Next week the guy that builds my buddies pro stock motors is gonna quote me a price for a 383. Not sure if this is the way I wanna go with this cuz I've heard they are a high rpm engine. He builds mainly high compression motors which only run on race gas. I was told he is the best around at what he does very reasonably priced and also very quick usually finishing up in a week and a half

If I were you, I'd do a LOT of reading on the forums. There is a HUGE difference between a Nissan Titan and an LT1 car. You've got alot to learn and there's a ton of info on here about what it takes to build a 383.

I've been down that road. PM me if you want.

exactly you are comparing 15yr old technology and EPA requirments let alone different car makes..apples to oranges not apples to apples
