Custom ground cams??
Custom ground cams??
I'm in the market for a cam and have heard many say that you can't beat the performance of a custom grind. If I wanted to go this route...what kind of info do I need to provide for them to determine the best grind for my combo?
Never done it before but I would imagine, any and every mod you have done, injector size, fuel system limitations, what heads with valve sizes, spring heights, flow numbers, ext... What trans you have, gear ratio, to spray or not to spray.. Not sure if they will need to know trans and gear ratio but it would make sense they would want to know so they know how quickly your RMP's are increasing. I would think that should cover it. Well most importantly you goals!

You need to tell them all your mods and engine specs. Ported heads with flow numbers, port volume, and most importantly someone who knows what they are doing to spec the 'custom' aspect of the cam. Bret Bauer and Joe Overton come to mind, not your neighbors friends cousins buddies mechanic.

Cams, I assume, are offered based on experienced results, but of course, they may provide different results based on the platform.
Ordering a "custom" ground cam begs the question of what, other than bench work, is the expected results based on...PLUS the added conditions of the varying platforms.
I.e., why would anyone order a "custom" cam unless they were building a "custom" engine? JMHO
A custom cam probably will cost more and may not provide the results you had hoped for and may be tough to unload if you aren't happy.

Well, I've seen that going custom is only $30-40 more. From what I've read here and on other forums it seems others are getting good munbers with the custom grinds. I assume they will want flow numbers but not sure what else....
