Re: Custom Grind Cam

I don't think most people have any more than a basic understanding of how a cam grind influences engine performance. My opinion is based on the posts I have read here and the many long explanations I have posted in response. I would advise most of you to not try to "design" your own cam. If you know enough to do so, great. But from what I have seen most people do not. If you look through the "what do you think of this cam" type posts you will see some pretty far out concepts. They may work, but chances are they will not.

I am pretty darn familiar with the theory and practice of cam design. But I had Bret spec out my last one and it was $$$ well spent. If you have a very "vanilla" combo you can just go with what has worked for others (e.g. and off-the-shelf grind). You don't have much to gian with a "custom" cam. But if you have an unusual combo, it will be worth your while to consult an expert.

Re: Custom Grind Cam

I agree, Nick since youre running a stock bottom end and some nicely ported heads youre not running anything that hasnt been tried a thousand times. A custom cam may net you a little, but a proven grind would be the way to go, Youre car is trapping close to 115 mph as it is now, I would concentrate on getting that power to the ground and mid 11s will be the norm. You also already have the 12 bolt, do some suspention work and practice the launch and you'll be passing alot of people up with the motor you have in you car the way it sets now.

Re: Custom Grind Cam

Any cam CO. can give you a recommendation for YOUR set up. Crower is one of the best at this and it probably won't be anything that most people on the board runs.Definitely not a 306.
