Cruise Control -- T56 in a conversion...

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get my cruise control to work with my LT1/T56 conversion. The engine & trans is in a 1984 Jaguar XJ6. The XJ6 came originally equipped with a cruise control system involving a bellows, a pair of actuator solenoids & a cruise control computer working in conjunction with the old XJ6 ECU.

With the LT1, I am using the underhood PCM to drive all of the functions of the engine. My problem is getting the cruise control to work with my T56. Has anyone gotten their cruise system to work with a conversion application before? What are the steps in getting the system to work? Are there modifications that need to be made to the throttle body?

Any info or help on this would be great -- i can't seem to find any information for this precise application, and if anyone has experience, I'd really appreciate your input.

Thanks!

Tyler

Are you only considering a system based on the Jaguar cruise system, or do you have the cruise control module and cable from a compatible year 4th Gen LT1?

The diagram for the 94 cruise control system that I have shows that the module needs switched 12V power and a ground, the inputs from the traditional "stalk" on the steering column, brake depressed input (A4 models), brake release + clutch switch release input (M6 models), and a VSS signal from the PCM

The output is the positioner for the second cable attached to the stock throttle body quadrant.

Re: Cruise Control -- T56 in a conversion...

honestly i wasn't really sure where to start; i wanted to explore the options, and see if it is even possible in my application.

because of my clutch pedal arrangement, i won't be able to fit a clutch release switch -- there is no mounting boss, and i dont really want to add more clutter under there.

do you have the schematics in digital form? my books are in my garage, buried away. Perhaps there is a way i can fudge the clutch switch, or tune it out of the cruise control loop.

as for the second cable which connects to the LT1 actuator, i dont have that, nor the second cable. i suppose i could check out the junk yard to see if they have either item.

the jaguar system works similarly, only instead of a little motor, it uses a bellows powered by engine vacuum & a little vacuum tank. at this stage i'm not sure which system would be easier set up.

i think with the XJ6, i can mimic the brake switch input, the stalk (the jaguar has a cruise button on the stalk that works similarly), the 12v switched power & ground and the VSS. The problem i am going to run into is the clutch switch release input.

Could you give me some more information regarding this circuit? Also, some more information regarding the stalk circuit? if it really is the same as the XJ6, i'll be in business. I'd rather use the GM system than the XJ's bellow system.
