crazy exhuast question

OK I just put on my Pacesetter LT and they are vibrating against my floorboard just alittle but enough to drive me crazy. So my question is can I just stick somthing in between the y-pipe and the floorboard? I was thinking about using a piece of a tire but I wasn't sure that it wouldn't melt so can I do this or should I use something else and if so what?

Re: crazy exhuast question

how about checking your engine mounts to make sure they aren't the problem?

Re: crazy exhuast question

Yeah, I would start with diagnosing the motor mounts before wedging junk in there.

Re: crazy exhuast question

I'm pretty sure that they OK because I checked them when I put the headers on, its not really the floorboard but where the y-pipe is flatten out to clear the floor brace it touches there when the car is at low speeds or speeding up. So what kind of junk can I stick in there to stop it from vibrating?

Re: crazy exhuast question

get a 2x4 and pry on it some to give you the clearance you need, sticking stuff in there will not fix the problem.

Im not sure that there is enough room to get a 2x4 in there. but I guess I could do some adjusting with a hammer.

Never underestimate the power of a BFH...

It was got it for me. I know the mounts were good since I just replaced mine.

Re: crazy exhuast question

if the y pipe is what is hitting the floor board, loosen the y pipe from the headers at the collector and put something inbetween the floor and pipe, retighten and remove the something inbetween the y pipe and floorboard. thats what i did. i have shorties though, so im not sure how your headers attach to the y pipe.

Re: crazy exhuast question

The exhaust on my old V6 rattle against the tranny brace, and I stuck small pieces of tire in there. They'd fall out every few months or so, but it did the job. However, on my Z, I'd want to fix the prob correctly and permanently. JMO.

Try this:

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp

Cover it, and cool your engine compartment.
Thermo-Tec's exhaust wrap blankets are flexible heat shields that simply clip over the upper portion of your exhaust manifold or headers. The fabric side faces the heat source for heat reflection, while the aluminized side faces away to offer protection from liquid spills and abrasion. There are sizes for V6s and V8s, as well as four-cylinder and straight-six engines. There's also a 3 ft. x 5 ft. blanket that can be custom-cut to fit your application.

i started that thread...and i ended up bashing the crossmember in...everything worked out just fine. the hardest part was removing the y-pipe.
